Good morning and welcome to Iceland! Iceland is full of surprises! For one, it isn’t covered in ice! It’s a stunning mix of green plains, wild volcanic scenery, beautiful coasts and lakes, spouting geysers, hot springs, mud pools, clean, fresh air and sophisticated cities. Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, be met by our Local Tour Guide and motorcoach and head into Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital city of just over 140,000 people and the world’s northernmost capital city. We enjoy a guided city tour of Reykjavik, the heart of Iceland’s cultural and economic activity with a variety of restaurants, museums, galleries and theaters. The city center is home to many charming historic buildings of stone and timber contrasting with imaginative modern architecture. It has the features of a modern city complemented by a close connection to many natural wonders right on the city’s doorstep. Our tour includes a visit to the National Museum of Iceland, a perfect introduction to Iceland’s past and present. Continue to the quaint town of Hveragerdi, where we’ll check-in to our hotel accommodations and enjoy an evening welcome dinner together. (D)
August 10 – South Shore / Seljalandsfoss & Skogafoss Waterfall / Black Sand Beach
After breakfast, our adventure to the South Shore begins! We journey through small villages and farmlands along Iceland’s majestic mountains. Iceland is also famous for its waterfalls, and we’ll see two of the most magnificent – the Seljalandsfoss – which tumbles over high rock escarpments allowing you to walk behind the waterfall, and Skogafoss. We visit the Skogar Folk Museum and learn about the preservation and cultural heritage of Southern Iceland. Continue to the seashore, passing by sheer cliffs with an opportunity to step out on the beautiful Reynisfjara black sand beach. Our accommodations this evening are just outside of the village of Vik – the southernmost village in Iceland. (B)
August 11 – Reykjanes Peninsula / Blue Lagoon
This morning, head for the rough tracks of Reykjanes, one of the most active volcanic areas in Iceland. Then, a remarkable life-enriching experience awaits this afternoon when we visit the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a lake of warm-mineral rich geothermal water, internationally renowned for its healing prowess and beneficial effect on the skin. Located in the middle of a lava field in the pure and beautiful Icelandic wilderness, water is heated by underground volcanic activity at a depth of over 5,400 feet and is pumped to the surface to form this man-made wonder. Visitors from all over the world come here in search of health, relaxation and an exotic experience. You’ll get to soak in the pleasantly warm mineral-rich water and includes a silica mud mask, use of towel and the first drink of your choice! This evening we arrive back in Reykjavik and check-in to our centrally located hotel for our three-night stay in the city. (B)
August 12 – Total Solar Eclipse / Whale Watching Tour

The sky will darken, as if it were dawn or dusk, in the middle of the day! This morning before the eclipse we’ll head to the nearby dock for our whale watching excursion! This three-hour tour features a naturalist guide on-board the vessel who will share knowledge of these magnificent creatures while searching for pods of whales in the area. Our day ends with some free time in the vibrant city center to explore at your leisure. (B)

The amazing canyon that runs through the park is a meeting point of two of the earth’s tectonic plates. You’ll see outstanding natural wonders when you visit Geysir, Iceland’s most famous area for thermal activity. View “Strokkur”, one of the most active geysers, and “Gullfoss” (Golden Waterfall), Iceland’s most famous waterfall. Why travel to Iceland?
Iceland is one of the most beautiful, less traveled countries in the world. With world-class accommodations, some of the world’s freshest seafood and an incredible diversity of geography, it’s certainly not to be missed by any traveler. The area of Iceland is about the size of Ohio, with a total population on the entire island of around 400,000 people (the state of Ohio has nearly 12 million!). Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital city of just over 140,000 people, and the northernmost capital city in the world, is a lively, sophisticated, modern city keeping much of its charm and nostalgia.
What will the weather be like in Iceland?
Despite its icy name, it doesn’t snow as much in Iceland as you may think, especially near Reykjavik. August is Iceland’s warmest month, with only a couple of hours of darkness each night. You can expect temperatures to be above 50 degrees Fahrenheit and no higher than 70.
Language, Currency, Time Zone, Electrical Outlets
- Most Icelanders speak fluent English. English and Danish are mandatory subjects in primary school.
- Iceland’s currency is called the Icelandic Krona (ISK). As of April 2025, $1 US Dollar equals about 130 ISK.
- Iceland operates on the Western European Time Zone and is five hours ahead of Central Daylight Time.
- Icelandic electrical standards are the same as other Northern European countries (50Hz, 240 volts) so North American electrical devices will require converters and/or adapters. For more information, please consult an electronics retailer.
