September 12 – Welcome / Depart Omaha, NE
Meet us today at one of our many convenient pick-up points as we make our way to Omaha’s Eppley Airfield and connect to our overnight flight to Budapest, Hungary.
September 13 – Budapest, Hungary / Embarkation
Welcome to Hungary! Upon arrival you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your Emerald Cruises Star-ship, your home for the next seven nights. This afternoon is at leisure to become acquainted with the ship or begin exploring the city on your own. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a traditional Hungarian dinner and authentic Hungarian folklore show onboard. (D)
September 14 – Budapest, Hungary
Budapest is Eastern Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan city. Enjoy a guided tour encompassing many of the city’s hot spots. See Heroes’ Square and travel along the Andrassy Avenue – a UNESCO World Heritage site, to see the historic architecture of this capital city. Alternatively, enjoy a hike to Gellert Hill. This afternoon, the ship departs for Bratislava. (B, L, D)
September 15 – Bratislava, Slovakia
This morning, relax onboard as the ship sails to Bratislava. Witness Bratislava Castle, perched atop a hill, as you arrive into port. During the guided walking tour, meander through the heart of the cityas you view the lavish Episcopal Summer Palace, the neo-Renaissance facade of the Slovak National Theater, and charming streets lined with quaint shops and cafes. Alternatively, choose to join the hike to the castle for a look around the gardens and overview of the Danube. This afternoon, a highlight of the day will be a home-hosted visit where you are treated to tasty homemade specialties in the home of local Slovakians. What a unique opportunity to meet the locals and learn about life in Slovakia! (B, L, D)
September 16 – Vienna, Austria
Welcome to Vienna, Austria’s capital and the capital of classical music. Today you have a choice of activities: explore Austria’s art history on an included tour featuring a visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the largest art museum in the country and one of the most important museums in the world. Or, if you are feeling more active, opt to explore on two wheels, cycling along the serene trails on Danube Island. (B, L, D)
September 17 – Durnstein, Austria
Sail through the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau Valley enroute to Durnstein. Enjoy time at leisure in this charming village known as “The Pearl of the Wachau Valley.” This afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of Gottweig Abbey, one of Austria’s most important Benedictine abbeys. Sitting atop a hill near Krems, this architectural treasure overlooks the spectacular Wachau Valley. (B, L, D)
September 18 – Passau, Germany
Narrow cobblestone streets welcome you to Passau, a town nestled on the confluence of three of Europe’s main waterways – the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers. On this morning’s walking tour, stroll through the old town’s narrow alleyways and see its noteworthy architecture. See St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest pipe organ with more than 17,000 pipes. After a bit of free time, return to the ship a leisurely sailing along the river to Regensburg. (B, L, D)
September 19 – Regensburg, Germany
A morning arrival in Regensburg brings you to one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities and home to one of the oldest bridges corssing the Danube. As a local guide leads you through cobblestone laneson a walking tour, discover the UNESCO World Heritage city center and see many of the city’s architectural highlights. Enjoy a Bavarian sausage tasting during the tour for a real “taste” of local life! Alternatively, join a bike tour to the Walhalla Monument, towering high above the slopes of the Danube. The site affords a fascinating view of the surrounding landscape and the river below. This evening, a traditional Bavarian band performs onboard. The ship remains docked in Regensburg overnight. September 20 – Regensburg / Munich / Disembark
After breakfast, say goodbye to your Captain and crew as you disembark your ship and depart by motorcoach to Munich. Upon arrival, an included panoramic tour showcases the former Olympic site, Nymphenburg Palace, Maximillianstrasse and the Parliament, the National Theater and Munich’s Residenz. During a walking tour, stroll through Marienplatz Square and see the famous Glockenspiel. Enjoy the festive atmosphere of Oktoberfest with an included entrance to a beer tent at the fairground. Of course a sampling of the local beer and food will be served while partaking in the merriment of the music and fun in the tent. (B)
September 21 – Munich, Germany
Your final day is left free of planned activities to pursue individual interests. Continue discovering the sights of the city, shopping for last minute souvenirs, or return to the Oktoberfest fairgrounds independently! (B)
September 22 – Depart Munich / Return Home
Bid a fond farewell to Europe and return home with memories of life enriching experiences from your cruise along the Danube River! Upon arrival back in Omaha, say goodbye to your fellow travelers as you arrive back at your initial pick-up points. (B)
