flight traveling en route to Munich, Germany. Dinner and breakfast will be
served during our flight according to airline schedules.
- Friday, September 21 - Munich/
Seefeld - As the sun begins to rise on the German heartland we will arrive
in Munich where we'll be met by our European Tour Escort who will travel with
us throughout our tour. Then we're headed south across the Austrian
border to Seefeld, one of the most beautiful and sophisticated of Tyrolean
resorts located on a sunny plateau above the Inn Valley and surrounded by the
splendor of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain ranges.
- Saturday, September 22 - Seefeld (Almabtrieb)
- Today we are in for a special treat when we travel to the family and flower
village of Reith im Alpbachtal to witness the Almabtrieb. Summer is
over, the days are getting shorter and the nights are turning rather chilly,
high time for herdsman to drive their cattle from the pasture to the
valley. Adorned with varied colorful ribbons, wreaths, brushwood
coronets and mirrors, the colorful parade begins the often dangerous descent
into the valley. The herdsmen and the countrywomen have also donned
their traditional costume for the joyous arrival in the valley and we'll join
in the folklore fun that accompanies this time honored tradition. On our
return journey to Seefeld we'll visit the medieval village of Rattenberg, a
beautiful town with a captivating medieval atmosphere, located on the banks of
the Inn River. This ancient village, which is nearly 1000 years old, is
alive with beautiful homes and a charming marketplace. However,
Rattenberg may be best known for its exquisite crystal and glass; We'll
visit the world-famous Kisslinger Crystal to learn of their time honored
traditions.
- Sunday, September 23 - Seefeld
(Fairytale Bavaria Excursion) - Southern Bavaria is the focus of the
excursion today. We'll leave Seefeld and travel across the
Austria/German border by way of the twin villages of Garmisch-Partenkirchen to
the Passion Play village of Oberammergau where we will have the chance to see
woodcarvers at work and purchase their beautiful woodcarvings. Then
drive to Linderhof Palace for a guided visit of "Mad" King Ludwig's
19th century palace, set in the midst of the Ammergau Mountains.
Paterres, terraces and magnificent fountains embellish the park, and the
palace itself is sumptuously decorated. On our return journey to Seefeld,
we'll pass the Monastery of Ettal where Benidictine Monks have been preparing
their special liqueurs for centuries.
- Monday, September 24 - Seefeld/Salzburg/Passau
- Today we leave Seefeld and make the scenic journey into the Inn Valley and
then travel over the autobahn through the spectacular scenery of Austria to
the lovely "Sound of Music" city of Salzburg. An afternoon
introductory tour will start on the right bank of Salzach River where we'll
see the grounds of Mirabell Palace before crossing over into the Old
Town. Here we'll see teh 15th - century Altes Rathaus and take in the
sites along the romantic Getreidgasse, including Mozart's birthplace.
We'll make our way to the residence, and nearby we'll visit Salzburg Cathedral
and see St. Peter's Abby, seen so frequently in the "Sound of
Music". From Salzburg, we cross the border into Germany to Passau,
situated on a peninsula at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube
Rivers. Passau is one of Europe's loveliest medieval cities.
- Tuesday, September 25 - Passau/
Prague - After leisure time in Passau we will travel across the Bavarian
countryside to the border of the Czech Republic and continue on our way to the
capital city of Prague. Built on seven hills and spanning the Vltava
River, the Czech Republic's "Golden City of the Hundred Spires" is
one of the world's most impressive capital cities.
- Wednesday, September 26 - Prague
- A leisurely day will begin with an introductory tour of Prague that will
take us past Strahov Stadium before we stop to visit the city's most
distinctive landmark, St. Vitus's Cathedral. A walk around St. Vitus's
will take us back through a thousand years of history. Afterward, we'll
continue down to the Mala Strana and walk across the magnificent Charles
Bridge that was built in 1357. Until 1741, the Charles Bridge was the
only crossing over the Vltava River. Today, Prague's most familiar
landmark is now the pedestrian bridge offering locals and visitors alike a
virtual outdoor museum of no less than 30 religious statues. The
afternoon is free to explore Prague. The Old Town is free of traffic and
rimmed with historic buildings and its spectacular astronomical clock.
It is considered one of the finest public squares of European capital cities.
- Thursday, September 27 - Prague/Pilsen/Rothenburg
- This morning we travel to Pilsen home to some of the world's best-known
breweries. We'll tour one of Pilsen's world-famous breweries where you

for more than 700 years. In the afternoon, we leave the Czech Republic
and travel into northern Bavaria to Rothenbur, one of Europe's most

carefully rebuilt after wartime destruction, and enjoy a walking tour of this
treasure trove of early German history.
- Friday, September 28 - Rothenburg
- Our day will begin with a walking tour of Rothenburg, considered one of the
loveliest and well-preserved walled cities in the entire world. Cameras
are a must, as you will feel like we have walked back into the 16th century
when we stroll along the cobblestone streets to see the fabled Town Hall and
the Plonlein, a picturesque corner formed by the juncture of two
streets, before ending with a unique view of the Tauber valley. The
afternoon is free for shopping and to enjoy the atmosphere of this wonderful
medieval town.
- Saturday, September 29 -
Rothernburg/Augsburg (Oktoberfest) - From Rothenburg we make the short
journey into Munich the capital city of Bavaria and the heart of artistic
Germany. Boasting magnificent architecture from Bavaria's royal past
we'll experience it all with a visit to the Marienplatz and see its beautiful
new City Hall with chimes displaying a medieval tournament and dance, the
Karolinenplatz with its Obelist, and the Koenigsplatz. We'll spend the
afternoon at Munich's famous Oktoberfest that is celebrated at the "Weis'n"
Fair Grounds. Ten huge festival tents of the seven Munich breweries
welcome the visitors and the lively brass bands add to the overwhelmingly
happy sounds of this world-famous festival. In the early evening, we
make the short journey to Augsburg for our last evening in Europe.
- Sunday, September 30 -
Augsburg/Omaha - This morning we drive to Munich Airport where our Escort
