Mon.,
July 16 - Omaha/Anchorage
We
depart Omaha's Epply Airport early this morning by scheduled airline service
en route to Anchorage, Alaska. On arrival in Anchorage, we'll board our
waiting motor coach for the transfer to our downtown hotel, where the
remainder of the day is at leisure. Surrounded by wilderness, Alaska's
largest city is nestled between the Alaska Range and the Chugach Mountains,
combining a mixture of sophisticated metropolis and robust frontier
town.
Tues.,
July 17 - Anchorage/ Denali
This
morning we board the Denali Star, a semi-luxury passenger train operated by
the Alaska Railroad for our journey north to Denali National Park.
You'll know from the very moment we climb aboard the Alaska Railroad that
we're riding on the best train in the world. The charm and scenic appeal
of this great and vast land is amplified through panoramic windows and
underscored by historical narratives of lifelong Alaskan conductors and tour
guides. Sit back and enjoy spectacular scenery as we travel through the
six million acres of mountains, forests, rivers and valleys that make up the
parks boundaries. On arrival in Denali, the afternoon is at leisure
where the more adventurous can take part in any number of optional
activities. From wildlife viewing, to hiking and rafting, there is
something for everyone in the beauty of this magnificent park.
Wed.,
July 18 - Denali
Today
we will enjoy a Tundra Wilderness Tour that will take us deep into the park
and, if the clouds permit, allow a view of the mighty Mt. McKinley, the
tallest peak on the North American continent. Every turn on the Park
Road brings a new wonder as we journey miles into this astounding wilderness
preserve. Watch for ptarmigan, Alaska's state bird, in the open
valleys. See golden eagles patrolling the higher elevations and ridge
tops, listen to ravens, magpies and gray jays chattering in the brush.
With any luck, we'll see grizzlies crossing braided streams, Dall sheep
traversing rigged cliffs and moose foraging in upland meadows. And this
unfolding adventure leads to the lofty, isolated grandeur of Mt. McKinley
itself, a wonder to behold.
Thurs.,
July 19 - Denali/Seward
This
morning we depart Denali and travel south along the Parks Highway threading
our way though the land of the midnight sun, a wilderness ramble revealing the
many facets of Mt. McKinley. Along the way, we'll stop at Mile 147.2 to
visit the Alaska Veterans Memorial, a remembrance to the veterans of Alaska
who have served our country at home or abroad. We'll also stop in the
town of Wasilla, the official starting point of the greatest dog sled race in
the world, to visit the Iditarod Headquarters. Afterward, we'll bypass
Anchorage on our way to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Set on
the shores of Turnagain Arm and surrounded by mountains and hanging glaciers,
the center is the perfect setting to learn about Alaska's most cherished
wildlife species. Our day will then come to an end as we arrive in the
port community of Seward. Ice free year around, Seward was a natural
choice as the ocean terminal and supply center during the construction of the
Alaska Railroad, but more importantly, marks the departure point for our
Alaskan Cruise Vacation.
Fri.,
July 20 - Seward/Cruising
Sandwiched
between the Kenai Mountains and the waters of the Kenai Fjords, Seward is one
of Alaska's oldest and most scenic communities. Spend the day exploring
this beautiful seaside village offering a bustling harbor, quaint shops and
galleries, and many different ways to tour the Kenai Fjords National
Park. Late this afternoon, we'll embark aboard Celebrity Cruises
Millennium. From the moment we depart Seward, you'll know this will be a
cruise vacation to treasure forever. Bracing sea air, a wide variety of
shipboard activities and renewed friendships all combine to welcome us to the
cruising experience.
Sat.,
July - Cruising (Hubbard Glacier)
This
afternoon we sail to Hubbard Glacier. Imagine coming face to face with a
gigantic wall of ice that fills your view and extends for miles in either
direction. It's a titan on the move, advancing faster than almost any
other glacier on the continent. By the time it reaches Disenchantment
Bay, the imposing architecture of this five mile long behemoth towers 40
stories high. As we glide along its looming mass, watch for seals afloat
on the ice, listen for the glacier's loud, deep rumble and wait for the mighty
crack followed by the thunderous crash. Then marvel as icebergs as large
as buildings topple into the sea.
Sun.,
July 22 - Cruising (Juneau)
Today
our port of call is Alaska's capital city of Juneau. Located at the foot
of the grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, we can step ashore to
shop for gold nuggets, visit the stately Governors Mansion and saunter through
the swinging doors of the Red Dog Saloon, the city's famous watering
hole. Nearby, you can visit mighty Mendenhall Glacier, the world's most
photographed glacier, or hop aboard the Mt. Roberts Tramway for breathtaking
views of Southeast Alaska.
Mon.,
July 23 - Cruising (Skagway)
This
morning we dock in Skagway, the northern-most port of call on Alaska's Inside
Passage. Referred to as the "roughest town on earth" with over
80 saloons, Skagway is the city that 40000 gold-seeking fortune hunters made
famous the starting point of their incredible trek over wither the Chikoot
Pass or the legendary White Pass. Explore the wooden sidewalks and visit
the well-stocked shops on Main Street where every building facade has
been handsomely restored to the glory days of the past. Stroll down
Broadway, part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Park, and be sure to stop in
at the playfully "naughty" Red Onion, a watering hole circa 1898.
Tues.,
July 24 - Cruising (Icy Straight Point)
Icy
Straight Point is the newest and most exclusive Alaska cruise
destination. Deriving its authentic cultural heritage from the residents
of the cliffside village of Hoonah, its largest Tlingit native settlement in
Alaska. Icy Straight Point welcomes only one unique cruise ship into its
harbor at a time to provide guests with a unique and exclusive journey back
into real Alaska. The best of Southwest Alaska is yours, including some
of the finest whale watching and bear viewing opportunities.
Wed.,
July 25 - Crusing (Ketchikan)
Our
port of call today is the "salmon capital of the world", better know
as Ketchikan, the southernmost port of call on the famed Inside passage.
With 3,000 -foot-high Deer Mountain looming behind, there never was much room
for Ketchikan to expand, so much of the town is built on trestles, docks and
pilings at waters edge. Explore historic Creek Street, now a covey of
contemporary art galleries and quaint boutiques, and meet the spirits of the
raven, whale, and eagle while viewing the largest collection of totems
in the world at Totem Bight State Historical Park.
Thurs.,
July 26 - Cruising (Inside Passage)
Today
we cruising through the famous Inside Passage, the scenic waterway that
reaches 1000 miles from historic Skagway, Alaska to beautiful British
Columbia. From the board decks of the ship and its many lounges with
picturesque windows, we'll have an unobstructed view of nature's daylong show
while we gliding through a maze of bays, straights, arms and fjords; a
panorama interrupted only by the sightings of whales and sea lions frolicking
in the waters around us. This is Alaska, one of the most naturally
beautiful places on earth!
Fri.,
July 27 - Cruising/Omaha
Early
this morning we will sail under the Lion's Gate Bridge as Vancouver's dramatic
skyline draws us to Canada Place Pier. Following disembarkation, we'll
